Welcome to the Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema
The Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema is Charleston, West Virginia’s nonprofit, independent movie theater – a place to see foreign, local, documentary, and indie films in an intimate setting. Located in the basement of Taylor Books’ Annex Gallery, the Floralee shows feature films each month in addition to our special programming through series such as Movies That Matter (issue-oriented films) and WV Wednesdays (films by, about or made in WV).
After 30 years of showcasing films in West Virginia, the WVIFF recognized the need for a singular space to screen movies year-round. The Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema is the culmination of that vision and affords the WV International Film Festival the ability to bring audiences an even broader offering of films.
Floralee Hark Cohen
1936-2011
Floralee Hark Cohen is a third generation Charlestonian — graduate of Charleston High School and The Ohio State University (fine arts major). Floralee was an accomplished artist, as well as an interior decorator and designer. Her love of movies and attending the West Virginia International Film Festival was the motivating interest for her family to obtain naming rights for the Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema.
Floralee was married to Dr. Donald Cohen for 57 years. They had four children: Brad, Leslie, Zoe and Betsy, and twin granddaughters, Carrie and Carla.
Her legacy is kindness to all — her family, her friends and helping to provide an avenue for future joy, education and entertainment through the movies.
